Using the Link Button

In order to add some rich web content to your word page, and to make connections with other kids' word pages, you will need to use the link button.

For an Outside Link:

  1. Find a quality site that helps further your audience's understanding of a word.
  2. Highlight the URL of that website.
  3. Go to the Edit menu, and select Copy.
  4. Type the text that you want to use to create a link. It could be a description, word, or prompt (such as click here).
  5. Highlight the text.
  6. Click the Link button.
  7. Click the button on the middle of the left-hand side for Web Address.
  8. Since the link is going outside of the wiki, check the box for New Window.
  9. Paste the address in the Address box.
  10. Click the Add Link button.

For Another Page in our Wiki:

  1. Ensure that there is a page in the wiki that you want to link to. Make a mental note of the page name (word).
  2. In your page, type the text that you want to use to create a link. It could be a description, word, or prompt (such as click here).
  3. Highlight the text.
  4. Click the Link button.
  5. Click on the button at the top of the left-hand side for Page or File.
  6. Type the name of the page in the box that appears.
  7. Click on the name of the page that you want to link to.
  8. Since the link is not going outside of the wiki, DO NOT check the box for New Window.
  9. Click the Add Link button.
